CHEMICAL PEEL
This procedure uses acid to peel off top layers of
old facial skin. The idea is that the old top layers are the
ones that cause more of the perceived wrinkling
Recovery is one to four weeks, however skin redness can occur
for three to six months.
Works best on fair skin that have minor
wrinkles, using a mild acid solution. Deeper wrinkles are
treated with a solution such as phenol, a stronger acid. New
lasers are a newer option in resurfacing procedures.
Risks include infection, scarring, and inflammation of the skin
secondary to an allergy from the solution. Phenol has been
linked with permanent lightening of skin
