Breast Lift
( Mastopexy)
Breast Lifts are performed to raise a breast
that has become droopy or has saggy skin. This usually
occurs after pregnancy and nursing, but can occur as a simple
cause of nature. A breast lift procedure tightens the saggy
tissue and raises the nipple back up into a more aesthetic
position. The nipple and areola tissue have an incision
made around then and continued straight down from the breast at
the 6 o'clock position. The nipple is left on what is
called a pedicle. This pedicle is the tissue attachment
that maintains the nerve and blood supply to the nipple and
areola. A curved incision is made into the tissue above the
areola to make room to move the nipple into it's new
position. The
surgery results in a repositioning of the nipple, while
leaving it attached to it's blood and nerve supply . As a result of repositioning, the nipple may
lose sensation, and occasional scar tissue formation can effect
the blood supply, resulting in a shrunken nipple. Additionally,
some patients report an overly sensitive nipple. Sometimes
breast feeding may not be possible after this surgery.
